How do I put my faith into practice?
What does it mean to be a follower of Christ in today's world?
What is our Baptismal Covenant calling us to?

via media values is an ALL NEW 6-week course  starting Wednesday, September 24th.  Each week we will delve into the baptismal covenant and explore how we live that out in the 21st century.  This ALL NEW course promises to be a fun and stimulating course whether you’re a seeker, exploring the Christian faith for the first time, or a long time Episcopalian, looking to deepen your understanding – as well as everyone in-between!  And of course, it’s a great way to meet others and make a few new friends.  This is also an ideal course to invite those friends we know are looking to reconnect with their spiritual journey.  All are welcome!

Each night start off we simple supper, followed by a short video to introduce the topic, and then we break into groups to discuss and share our insights.

Session 1:  Communion: An Ethical Choice

Session One is designed around the first question in the Baptismal Covenant: “Will you continue in the Apostles teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers?” It focuses on how we are shaped by a Eucharistic community, and how we stay in community even when we disagree.

Session 2:  Repentance: An Ethical Journey

In Session Two, participants will have an opportunity to focus on the second question: “Will you persevere in resisting evil, and, when you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord?” Participants will have the opportunity to explore how our own paths are filled with moments of redemption and healing, and how we can apply those values to our global community.

Session 3:  Witness: An Ethical Example

We find in Session Three examples of the way some Episcopalians live out their faith in the world, as they answer the question: “Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ?”

Session 4:  Service: An Ethical Imperative

Session Four reminds us of Jesus’ own commandment to love our neighbors. In loving them, we serve them. It begs the question, if we are to serve our neighbor, then just who ARE our neighbors? In the Baptismal Covenant this is stated as: “Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself?”

Session 5:  Respect: An Ethical Right

Session Five is about human rights and responsibilities. During this session participants will encounter the tension in which we often find ourselves living as Christians in the world around us. We are asked: “Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being?” Our answer to this question helps to guide us on our path through life.

Session 6:  Go Forth! Ethics in Action

The sessions end with the sixth week. Using the ministry of the deaconate, to which we are all called in some ways, participants explore the words of the dismissal and examine what we are really called to do when we reenter our weekly routines after Sunday.
